Today was our Spring Treat Day. About 2-3 times a day I get a wild hair and I bake, a lot. Today, we did just that. We made chocolate covered pretzels, Peeps Rice Krispy Treats, chocolate peeps, Pink Tie Dye Cake, etc.
One of the nice things about our town is that we have a very supportive community. Our girls basketball went to championship last week, and the boys this week. Because so many kids go to these games and support their classmates, our community typically calls school of. Which means, for a mom of much smaller children, I have to find something to do to keep them entertained! So my ten year old invited over a friend, and we BAKED! It was a blast, it was fun watching them figure out how to make things go together, measuring, pouring, etc. Its probably one of the easiest things you can do with your kids, because you can do it at home, in your jammies, any time!
I found a really great recipe online to make Layered Peeps Rice Krispies, (Check it out here) That I REALLY REALLY REALLY wanted to try out, except…. well…. in our small town they don’t sell peeps any other color than Pink. So, we made Pink Peeps Rice Krispies!
Now, her recipe looks like its in a smaller loaf pan, and I was making them in a cake pan, so I had to improvise a bit. for every 3oz package of peeps, I put 1tbsp of butter. I used 5 packages of peeps to fill a baking pan. I wish, looking back, that I would have mixed some spring M&Ms in too, but there is always next time!
Ingredients
- 5 3oz Packages of Peeps
- 5 TBSP Butter
- 7-8 Cups of Rice Krispies
Instructions
- Grease a Cake Pan. I also sprayed my hands with cooking spray everytime I delt with the sticky Rice Krispies, it makes a huge difference!
- I heated 1pkg of peeps to 1tbsp a butter at a time and put them in my pan. So, to begin, put 1 3 oz package of peeps in a microwave safe bowl with 1 tbsp of margarine and melt in microwave for 45 seconds.
- Mix with 1 1/2 cups of Rice Krispies and pour into cake pan. Press firmly down. This will only cover about 1/4 of the pan, which is fine. We are doing this in increments.
- Continue the above steps until you have filled your cake pan.
- Let set in fridge
- VOILA! :)
