Keeping a marriage fresh and fun can be so hard, especially when times get tough. But here are a few tips that I’ve found useful and hope that you will too!
Keep up with yourself!- Now I’m not saying that for your husband to want you, you need to be perfect in any way. We all go through rough times, especially after having babies and when our kids are little. Trust me, I get how hard it can be to get a shower, let alone shave your legs. But for Gosh sake, every once in awhile pull out the razor, make up bag and curling iron and have some fun. Even, if you’re doing it with two little girls squeezing toothpaste everywhere and trying to put the cat in the toilet. (the cat usually manages to escape….usually). I love all things girly and am so happy I have a little something called concealer to work with. Let’s take full advantage of this woman! It’s one of the MANY advantages we have over the opposite sex.
Make it fun- Flirty post it notes around the house, sweet texts, lingerie… I don’t think I know one guy who would say they wouldn’t want to see their spouse in lingerie. It takes it up a notch and makes it seem more exciting and not just the same old same old. I’m not saying this has to happen every night, but every once in awhile is fun!
Let him know that even though you’re a mom now, he still matters- He used to be the center of your world before these cute little offspring took over your life. You two are what started it all! Let him know that even though you have 1,000’s of things going on each and every day, he still matters. Take time out to leave a note for him to find or just to say a simple I love you.
Set couples only time- When we have small children, our careers are to busy, or just with the stresses of everyday life, we forget to set aside alone time with our spouse. It’s just as important to connect with our husbands as it is with our children. As Mom’s we seem to ALWAYS overlook this. To keep a happy marriage and a happy home we need alone time together, to remember what made us fall in love in the beginning! This could be once a week or once a month. Just find a way to connect, even if it’s a movie after the kids are in bed.
