We moved to our adorable little town 6 years ago today! While there are many days I miss my big town shopping, the Arizona weather, and wide food variety…. there are so many reasons I adore my small town, and the opportunity I have to raise our kids here.
1. I save ALOT of money. The closest target, shopping mall, and organic food store is a 30 minute drive. (my husband loves this)
2. The people, they will do anything and everything to help each other out. My child’s doctor met me at the hospital within 5 minutes of calling to get my kiddo medicine for a burn at 9pm. I’ve seen fundraisers raise well over 40,000 dollars in a night to help a family in need, and people are always eager to reach out when someone needs help.
3. You know everybody by name. There is something so comforting to walk into our Sunday breakfast spot, and everyone greets you by name and says hi to your kiddos.
4. The opportunities. I’ve been able to start a business, make multiple mistakes and my town has still supported me and cheered me on as we’ve grown. I feel like they’re our cheerleaders and support system.
5. The traffic. Oh wait, there is none!
6. My kids can run through the backyards and around the neighborhood and I don’t have to worry. Every one of our neighbors is a good friend and has kids of their own. We can let them play on the swing set in the backyard and we know they’re safe!
7. I can buy sweet corn out of a pick up truck parked at the gas station. I put money in the window and take what I want. It’s on the honor system.
8. Every summer there are these things we call “Quarry Days” and “Cooty Days”. They are these fun little fairs in the park in town. They have funnel cake, fried donuts, rides for the kids, and tons of carnival games. What is NOT to love about that?!
There are definitely some days where I miss big city living, but most are just filled with happiness that were in the place we are now. We have so many great friends, family and supporters here.
